Three Greatest Moments In Toto Asia History
The Band Toto Asia Toto was expanding its production facilities in the overseas market and doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for bidet and washlet toilet seats, in contrast to its “base” markets in Japan and China. Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure the future generations would be able to read the words. However, many words were being replaced with foreign ones, such as dui from Bengali for verandah. Origins Established in 1917, Toto's early years were a mirror of Japan's economic growth. In the beginning of its existence, the company manufactured products to meet the demands of modern and contemporary urban housing. It was the first tunnel kiln in the nation that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use of automation for production control, which allows for greater efficiency and a more consistent production. In the latter half of the 1980s, the company began to expand overseas in order to benefit from sales and new markets. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and marketing other products of manufacturers to complement its own range of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy increased sales and increased the company's global market share. In the 1990s, Toto began focusing on research and development for water-related appliances. It also improved its distribution system to better serve the needs of customers and to increase profits. The company also employed the just-in-time approach to its supply chain management as well as sales program. This resulted in a greater level of satisfaction with the customer. Toto continues to invent toilet technology. The most recent toilet features a powerful, environmentally-friendly tornado flush. Toto uses recycled water for its manufacturing process, and has a green buying policy. Toto also produces bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers with higher energy efficiency than conventional models. The first Toto museum opened in 2015. It hosts exhibits on Toto's most famous products, their evolution, the group companies (all of which are made of ceramics) and the history of plumbing, and even bath units. In a separate gallery you can see Toto products sold all over. The museum also includes a bathroom with a WASHLET toilet and other toilet-related innovations. Before forming Toto the band, members of the group did session work for a variety of musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich as well as guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather and drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also appeared on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher. Discography It is common for a group with a name like Asia to be a prog rock band however it's actually a relatively straightforward rock band. The band was initially a four-piece and released two albums that were self-titled in 1979 and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The group has a wide musical background but their biggest success was in 1982 with Toto IV. The album was a massive blockbuster but not without its problems. The record companies placed the band under pressure to release an album that was a success or they would rescind them. Luckily for Toto, they did and they did it with the assistance of the smash single “Africa.” Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experience in the music industry, as the band members had been session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts prior to forming the group. Their sonic trademark has become the standard for the '80s, and has influenced many contemporary artists. The album starts out hard with songs such as Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to create great AOR songs that slowly sink into your head. But the album also contains some more mellow, jazzy tracks, like The Little Things and Chinatown. And the album ends with Great Expectations, a song which combines folk and distortion AOR and sounds totally wrong, but works wonderfully well. After Toto IV the band's fortunes started to plummet. David Hungate left the band to focus on his solo career and the band had a variety of drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the group due to drug charges. The band remained with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro. Despite the turmoil, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation however, which was not as successful as IV. The group managed to release a chart-topping album, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the conclusion of the original Toto lineup and was the first to feature the new singer, Simon Phillips. Tours The band has performed across the world to a global audience of millions, with sold-out shows across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia and New Zealand. The repertoire of the band is extensive, and their collective catalog has amassed over billion streams on streaming services around the world. The band's music has inspired many generations of fans. Steve Lukather and Joe Williams have developed a deep colorful friendship that is thriving professionally on a global basis. In 2018, the duo celebrated their 40 Tours Around The Sun with an incredibly successful global tour. The album that bears the same name reached #5 on Billboard 200. The new tour by the band includes their best hits and rarely live cuts, along with some of the songs from Lukather and Williams their individual catalogs. Line-up Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an ode to the traditional sextet style and it was a more consistent, more powerful effort with a harder edge. The more experimental sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the maturation in the group. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased ability to play was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature. Keyboardist David Paich's work also was more refined, sharper and less cloying than earlier recordings. After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live performance in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album followed shortly after, and the group went on an extensive world tour in support of the album. In this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family. In 1998, Paich & Lukather began searching through old tapes & demos to find songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed in 2001 as a duo album titled Then & Now. It was the first album by the band without a single song titled “A”. The album also contained a previously unreleased track called “Kari-Anne”. By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure, and the vocalist Williams was suffering from a serious laryngitis infection which limited his singing capabilities. Additionally, Hungate returned to Nashville as a drummer, and Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia The original Asia members met in England early in 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be reformed. This lineup, minus Howe (who was busy with Yes at the time) was later referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively. In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band featured a special guest appearance from singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
